In the latter part of the 2000s, our company relocated from what could best be described as “modest” office space in the automotive district of Birmingham’s Southside to a sparkling new industrial-modern office in the Southpoint Building on Red Mountain near Five Points South. Original partners of Red Rock, Tom Carruthers and Charles Robinson, redeveloped this tired 1950s office building as their first project together under their newly formed company. This move ushered in a new era for Red Rock Realty Group—one that would carry us through the Great Recession, a global pandemic, and the rise of remote work culture.
Over the past seventeen years since that move, Red Rock Realty Group has steadily grown and evolved the way we conduct business. This spring, we completed a transaction to sell our portfolio of small third-party multifamily management assignments to Watts Realty. At the same time, we added a portfolio of commercial properties, prompting us to reevaluate the functionality of our existing office space.
The main objective of our renovation was to create a collaborative environment with ample natural light while still providing our team members with private offices. We eliminated a once-bustling customer lobby in favor of additional private offices.
Over the years, we’ve built longstanding relationships with outstanding vendors and contractors—many of whom were excited to partner with us on this project. Thanks to those valued relationships, the renovation was completed in less than 60 days from the first swing of a hammer.
As we celebrate the “grand reopening” of our newly renovated office and welcome a new era at Red Rock Realty Group, we’re grateful for the seventeen years spent in the previous version of our space and the energy it brought to our team. Our hope is that, in another seventeen years, we’ll have outgrown even this remarkable space on the north side of Red Mountain—requiring not another renovation, but a whole new chapter.
